Find accessible outdoor recreation sites in New York

Public lands across the state are working to make outdoor recreation accessible for all New Yorkers!

From accessible boat launches, campsites, picnic areas, viewing and fishing platforms, and so much more–there are more options than ever! Here are a few of our favorite accessible DEC spots across the state:

Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center

Stony Kill Farm is a working farm that allows visitors to connect with hands-on experiences in nature and sustainable agriculture. Located in Dutchess County, the 1000-acre property spans farm and forest land, perfect for self-guided tours and outdoor education.

The Woodland Trail at Stony Kill is 0.4 mile one way and has a gentle grade (max. slope 10%), wide tread (min. width 4 feet), and firm compacted stone surface. The Farmstead Parking Area also has a wheelchair accessible picnic area and restroom.

Muller Hill State Forest

Muller Hill State Forest is 3,090-acres of diverse terrain and habitats in Central New York.

The Muller Pond Trail is 0.25 mile one way with a gentle grade (max. slope 12%), wide tread (min. width 3 feet), and firm compacted stone surface. The trail leads to a wildlife viewing area on Muller Pond and also to the Muller Hill Historic Site where the mansion of Louis Muller was located.

Carters Pond Wildlife Management Area

The 446.5-acre wildlife management area in East Greenwich is dedicated to Philip A. Dustin, an avid conservationist.

The site’s accessible trail is a 0.5 mile loop and has a gentle grade (max. slope 5%), wide tread (min. width 5 feet), and firm compacted stone surface leading to a boardwalk and viewing platform.

Mattituck Creek Waterway Access Site

The Mattituck Creek Waterway Access Site is the largest boat launch maintained by the DEC and provides public access to the iconic Long Island Sound. Accessible features include a trailered boat launch with dock, hand boat launch with dock, fishing/viewing platform, walking paths, and seasonal portable toilet.

Ausable Point Campground and Day Use Area

Ausable Point Campground is along the Lake Champlain shoreline and offers some of the best views and opportunities for hiking and boating in New York.

Wheelchair accessible features include the picnic pavilion, a beach access route, and restroom. The camping area also has a wheelchair accessible shower.
