40 new Bike Friendly businesses across the state

What do the Red Roof Inn in Weedsport, Amigos Cantina in Schuylerville, Lunkenheimer Craft Brewing Company, and seven Stewart’s shops across the state all have in common? All of them are now Bike Friendly New York certified businesses!

We recently welcomed 40 new businesses to the growing list of spots, where cyclists are guaranteed to be welcomed with open arms. These businesses ensure there is bike parking available and even offer bonus amenities like public restrooms, water bottle filling, discounts for cyclists, or bike pumps and tools on hand.

We’re thrilled to welcome these incredible businesses into the Bike Friendly network, a program sponsored by the NYS Canal Corporation to recognize and support businesses that offer services and amenities that accommodate cyclists.. Here’s a taste of what they have to offer:

Red Roof Inn (Weedsport)

The Red Roof Inn is a fantastic spot for travelers passing through the area, especially cyclists looking to explore the Erie Canal trail. With its convenient location right off the trail, The Red Roof Inn is a prime choice for those seeking both accessibility and natural beauty. Tim, the General Manager, has extensive experience and knowledge of the trail, which makes him an invaluable resource for guests, ensuring they have everything they need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. They even provide a 10% discount to cyclists!

Amigos Cantina (Schuylerville)

Amigos Cantina, now in their 18th year of business, is located at Historic Schuylerville's main intersection of routes 4 and 29. Dinner is served Tuesday-Saturday beginning at 4:30pm. They offer two indoor dining rooms, outdoor patio and garden dining. They also serve vegetarian and gluten-free options and are family friendly. Not to mention, Amigos Cantina is a stone's throw from the trail and two minutes away from the Hudson. Come in and refuel after a good day's ride.

While there, you can use the restroom, fill up your water bottles, access wifi, and charge your devices. The owner of the restaurant is a member of the Schuylerville Empire State Trail Town committee and has spearheaded the installation of brand-new bike racks at businesses all over town.

Lunkenheimer Craft Brewing Company (Weedsport)

Lunkenheimer Craft Brewing Co. is a small batch, hand-crafted brewery located in the historic Erie Canal village of Weedsport, New York. They have the flexibility to experiment and offer an ever-changing variety of creative and unusual ales.

Brewery staff are knowledgeable and can offer a bike tool kit as well as provide information on local bike shops. The Lunkenheimer Craft Brewing team is working to improve bike accessibility by partnering with a bike repair shop in the future to vend emergency bicycle repair parts and accessories.

Stewart’s Shops

We are excited to welcome seven Stewart’s locations along the Empire State Trail into our Bike Friendly network! Certified Stewart’s include the stores in Fort Henry, Fort Plain, Whitehall, New Paltz, Mechanicville, Schenectady, and Schuylerville. Stewart’s is a go-to stop for cyclists in need of some air conditioning, snacks, and a cold beverage. These locations ensure bike parking is available, which can make all the difference after a long day.
