An $1.8 Million Investment New York's Public Lands and Grassroots Groups

Parks & Trails New York and the NY Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) are having a big impact for grassroots groups caring for the public lands you love!

We are celebrating the first year of our DOUBLED Park and Trail Partnership Grants in a big way. From Artpark and Old Fort Niagara to Jones Beach and Planting Fields Arboretum, we've announced the 28 grassroots organizations who've been awarded $1.8 million in grants. This 8th round of Park and Trail Partnership Grants will leverage over $625,000 in private funds to accomplish a wide variety of projects—ranging from increasing accessibility for park goers with different mobility to swimming, to building capacity for previously all-volunteer groups—these nonprofits working with State Parks and the Department of Environmental Conservation have a huge impact by offering enhanced programming to visitors, raising funds for their sites, taking on necessary infrastructure projects to make sites safer, and more.

Started as a private grants program by PTNY—and now funded through the Environmental Protection Fund—our Park and Tral Partnership Grants (PTPG) program has provided 195 grants since 2015... totaling nearly $6.3 million in support! Parks & Trails New York Executive Director Paul Steely White said, “These grants are like rich organic fertilizer for growing the grassroots movement to improve New York’s parks, trails, historic sites, and public lands. Accessible kayak launches, bridge repairs, strategic planning and youth education are just a few examples of the newly-funded projects that will bring more nature and more joy to more New Yorkers.”

Before reading further about these exciting projects on the horizon, we will be sharing another exciting announcement about the next round of Park and Trail Partnership Grants this July! Stay tuned. More details including the Round 9 schedule are to come.
