Double the Bicycling Adventure

The coming year will be a big one for bike tours at PTNY. We are launching a second bike tour, Cycle the Hudson Valley, and celebrating 25 glorious years of our popular Cycle the Erie Canal tour.

PTNY is well known for promoting outdoor recreation and the rich history of New York State, and next year presents the perfect combination of both. The Cycle The Erie Canal (CTEC) bike tour has been making it’s own history for a quarter of a century and will celebrate it’s 25th anniversary in 2023. The ride, which begins July 8 and ends 16, showcases the canal that transformed America and the many small canal towns along the way. Registration opens Jan. 4, 2023. Explore the CTEC tour.

FUN FACT: When the Erie Canal was being planned, the U.S. didn’t have any engineers or even a single engineering college. So an amateur crew of self-taught engineers figured out a way to accomplish an idea first conceived by Leonardo Da Vinci called “locks” or boat elevators. Be sure to check out our CTEC itinerary on Sunday that features an opportunity to take a boat ride through a lock.

2023 will also see the launch of the inaugural Cycle the Hudson Valley bike tour July 29-Aug. 5, 2023 . This brand new tour will feature the Hudson Valley section of the Empire State Trail. Starting near Albany the seven-day tour will cross the Hudson River several times and highlight the communities, culture, history and scenic landscape of the iconic Hudson Valley on it’s way to the “Big Apple.” Registration opens Jan. 18, 2023.Come make your own history on the new CTHV tour.

FUN FACT: Thomas Cole, an American artist and early environmentalist, founded our nation’s first major art movement: the Hudson River School of painting. Themes that Cole explored in his art—landscape preservation and the idea of nature as a restorative power—continue to resonate today. The tour overnights on Sunday near Olana and include shuttles to this magnificent home of one of Cole’s most well-known students.

Make plans to join us on one or both of next year's tours!
