I Love My Park Day Canceled This Year

Regretfully, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I Love My Park Day (ILMPD) will not take place on May 2 While ILMPD has been, for many, the unofficial start to the busy season for parks, historic sites and public lands and historic sites, this year is different. Due to the current public health crisis, parks have seen a significant increase in usage over the past month, as individuals and families seek the outdoors for mental and physical benefits.

Enthusiasm for the statewide volunteer event has grown each year and this year we were on target to register a record 150 locations to host ILMPD events. We are grateful to the organizers that were planning to welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to take on projects ranging from landscaping to picnic table construction.

We couldn't pull off ILMPD without our wonderful sponsors, whose generous support and continued commitment have made it possible to grow ILMPD over the years.. A particular tip of the hat goes to the Commission on National and Community Service, which not only supports ILMPD financially but inspires volunteers to participate and connect with parks in their communities.

Although we won't be able to show parks love in person this year on the first Saturday in May as we have for the past eight years, the commitment of our event organizers, sponsors, partners and volunteers is worth celebrating , and we are planning to do just that with a virtual I Love My Park Day celebration in May.
