Brockport: The First Empire State Trail Town

Known as the “Victorian Village on the Erie Canal,” Brockport was the first community along the Erie Canalway Trail to be officially designated an Empire State Trail Town. From its Main Street lined with quaint shops to the College at Brockport, State University of New York, the village is a great place to experience all that the Erie Canal and Canalway Trail have to offer.
Why visit Brockport?
- Brockport's pedestrian-friendly downtown of small shops and restaurants (many of which are certified Bike Friendly New York businesses) is listed on the National Register of Historic places. Marked by a large mural of the village, the Lift Bridge Book Shop regularly brings in visiting authors. The Strand Theater is the second-oldest movie theater in the U.S. and is still playing newly-released movies.
- The Village prides itself on its public art, its canalfront Welcome Center staffed by volunteers who greet boaters and Erie Canal cyclists, and its nine public parks.
- Notable festivals and events include:
- Low Bridge, High Water (June) - Festival at the Welcome Center celebrating the beginning of the canal season.
- Summer Serenades (Thursday evenings in July & August) - live music and acts at the Welcome Center.
- Brockport Farmers Market (Sundays throughout the summer) - Quality fresh foods and farm products from western Monroe County on Main Street between King and Market Streets.
- Brockport Arts Festival (August) - Over a hundred artists and crafts-people cover a wide variety of categories and styles on Main Street. Festivities also include food vendors, a winegarden, live music, and a Duck Derby on the canal.
- On the Canals excursions (throughout the year) - Past excursions have included adaptive kayak and bicycling, snowshoeing, and plein air painting. Check to see what's being offered!
